The deal is the first to be announced for the former Prudential Financial redevelopment site.

Summit Orthopedics will open an 80,000-square-foot facility at the Prudential redevelopment site in Plymouth.

The Woodbury-based health care company will be the sole tenant in a new two-story building on the northwest corner of the overall site, confirmed Dan Salzer, director of development for Indianapolis-based Scannell Properties, which is co-developing the site.

Located on the corner of Interstate 494 and Bass Lake Road, the Prudential site is also being co-developed by Minnetonka-based Roers Cos. Prudential Financial Inc. recently left the site for downtown Minneapolis.

The co-developers purchased the 75-acre property, at 13001 County Road 10, from Prudential last year for $20 million.

Summit's new Plymouth facility will offer an ambulatory surgery center, clinic space, physical therapy, imaging services, urgent care and more, according to the release. Construction will begin this summer, with the facility expected to open in the fall of 2025.

“Our new Plymouth hub will be a healthcare destination offering comprehensive orthopedic care under one roof to residents in the northwest metro communities," Summit CEO Adam Berry said in the release.

Summit has other centers in the Twin Cities for comprehensive orthopedic care, including in Eagan, Vadnais Heights, Woodbury, Eden Prairie and Minnetonka.

An existing Summit location in Plymouth, at 15700 N. 37th Ave., will remain open during construction on the new facility. But services and employees will move upon completion.

The deal is the first to be announced for the Prudential site, which recently received approval on a comprehensive plan amendment. The project is expected to return for other city approvals yet this year.

“Summit’s new hub is on track to be the first building to break ground in the development and will be a key component to breathing new life into the long-underutilized site," Salzer said in the release.

An initial site plan submitted to the city but not yet approved shows four residential buildings and three commercial buildings, as well a bank and several restaurants and retail stores.
