In an effort to find out how Hawaii's business leaders achieve success, Pacific Business News is asking local professionals to share one tip or one "secret" that's helped them the most in their career.

Tanya Fernandes, CEO of Hookele Home Care, told PBN:

“Believe in what you do!

"I’ve learned that when I believe in what I do, that belief serves as motivation and guidance, helping me navigate through challenges and decision-making, and toward purpose-driven results," she said. "As I worked in different fields throughout my career, one thing remained steadfast — I needed to believe in what I was doing. When faced with challenges and hurdles, belief in my purpose is what fueled me to find solutions and propel me forward. In retrospect, I realize that the moments when I wholeheartedly believed in my endeavors were the times when I achieved my most remarkable outcomes.

"Belief, to me, is not just a fleeting sentiment; it's an unwavering commitment that drives resilience, determination and passion. It's the catalyst that transforms challenges into opportunities and setbacks into lessons," Fernandes continued. "Believing in what you do allows you to invest purposefully in endeavors that truly matter to you."

Fernandes joined Hookele Home Care, one of Hawaii's largest home care agencies, in 2013. Prior to joining Hookele, she was an attorney at Morihara Lau & Fong, a manager at Deloitte in Boston, and chief financial officer at Royal Hawaiian Showroom, where she oversaw all business and financial matters for the company. She is licensed to practice law in Hawaii and Massachusetts, according to provided information.

Fernandes earned her juris doctor at Boston College Law School and earned a bachelor of science in both accounting and psychology from Boston College in Massachusetts.
