Encompass Health continues to cement its presence in Florida.

Florida remains a hotspot for Encompass Health Corp., as the Birmingham company has a site under contract to build another freestanding, 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Cape Coral, Florida.

The hospital will be named the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cape Coral. The company hasn't announced a timetable for the project.

“The Cape Coral and Fort Myers areas continue to grow, and with that comes the need for additional health care services. Given our long tenure operating hospitals in Florida for over 30 years, we’ve watched the need for intensive rehabilitation services increase in those communities,” said Linda Wilder, president of Encompass Health’s Southeast region. “Our new, state–of–the–art hospital will be designed based on our experience treating almost 190,000 physical rehabilitation patients annually in our hospitals throughout the country. We look forward to becoming part of a strong, well–managed health care network augmenting the continuum of care through this new hospital.”

The company’s footprint in Florida includes 12 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and 19 home health locations, as well a location under construction in north Tampa. It also includes future hospitals in PensacolaSt. Augustine, Lakeland and Naples – a project we reported on this week.

Nationally the company’s footprint includes 136 hospitals, 245 home health locations and 83 hospice locations in 39 states and Puerto Rico.
