Newswise — Colleen M. Kigin has been elected a 2008 Catherine Worthington Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). This honor recognizes her contributions to the profession of physical therapy in areas of practice, education and research.

Dr. Kigin is chief of staff of CIMIT, a non-profit medial-research consortium of Boston-area teaching hospitals and engineering schools.

The APTA is a national professional organization representing more than 71,000 members. There are just 110 Fellows. Dr. Kigin has been involved in numerous aspects of APTA activities, including serving as vice president and a member of the Board of Directors, and president of the Massachusetts chapter.

In addition to being chief of staff at CIMIT, Dr. Kigin is responsible for CIMIT relations with the Government, Consortium Members and International Affiliates. As a physical therapist by background, Dr. Kigin is a former director of physical therapy services at Massachusetts General Hospital. She earned her masters degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government, and her doctorate in physical therapy from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. She is an assistant professor at the MGH IHP.
