A Birmingham development firm has broken ground on a hospital project in the Midwest.

The Sanders Trust is building a $44 million behavioral health facility in Youngstown, Ohio.

Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital is slated to be 61,900 square feet and have 62 beds. According to a release, the project is a joint venture between Mercy Health - Youngstown and Lifepoint Behavioral Health.

“Breaking ground on Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital marks an important milestone for The Sanders Trust and our partners. This state-of-the-art facility will showcase our commitment to advancing health care infrastructure that addresses critical community needs,” said Rance Sanders, president and CEO of The Sanders Trust. “We are honored to play a role in delivering such vital health care services and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the lives of patients and families for years to come.”

The Sanders Trust, which develops and acquires medical office buildings, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, specialty hospitals and other mission critical health care facilities nationwide, is working with general contractor Massaro Construction Group and architect Stengel Hill Architecture.
